CARPENTRY TECHNIQUES

As a part of our dedication to green methods, we source our wood as locally as possible. Wood types include Douglas Fir, Pine, Walnut, Mesquite, White and Red Oak, Maple, Alder and Cherry.

Panels for doors are typically 1 3/4” thick, the same thickness as the stiles and rails of the door. This allows for deep carving as well as thermal resistance.

All doors and gates are mortise and tenon construction- waterproof glue is used on all joints. Tenon joints are through pegged. All are stained and sealed with 2 coats.

Heavy duty butt hinges are used. All latched and locks are installed. Weatherstrip, threshold, and door bottoms are installed in the shop.

Design features include: forged steel, turned spindles, carving, beading, and thermal glazing. Copper sheathing, clavos, hand planed texture and copper caps on gets, weather stripped, speakeasy doors.

Storm/screen doors are made with interchangeable glass and screen panels. We use Fiber Pet screening or 1/4”x1/4” hardware cloth and metal insect screen. Silver, black or bronze.
